As is customary worldwide people often have to go to other countries to look for work. Last night I had a delightful
conversation with an Argentinean Woman who had fled Argentina as the Economic crisis had been so bad. She ended
up in Spain never imagining in a short time Spain would have an even worse economic crisis than her home in Argentina!
The Spaniards are immigrating to Germany by the 10s of thousands. Without German and English a lot are returning
unable to find work. When the economic crisis hit in the United States my grandparents left the USA and traveled around
the world. They would first sign up for a language course in what every country they were in. Once the language was under
their belt my grandfather began teaching American dental techniques at the universities across the world from South America,
Central America to Germany, France and Spain. My grandmother was better at languages than he so she helped translate for
the classes. My grandfather even taught at the University in Granada where I’m presently living. My grandmother was one of the
original women suffragettes so she started women’s movements in all the countries they visited. After the depression was over
they returned to the United States. Today once again the whole world is in flux. One sees now the Chinese are returning to China
as they can earn better in China than Spain for example or they send their children back to China so they can maintain a foothold
in the different countries ready to flee should it be necessary.
